Visit Phôngsali


Phongsali is a province in the north of Laos, located within the Golden Triangle region. It borders China to the north and Vietnam to the east, and is known for its mountainous terrain and lush wildlife. The capital of Phongsali is Muang Khua, a colorful town situated on the banks of Nam Ou River.

The province boasts plenty of adventurous activities for tourists including trekking across lush forests or visiting nearby ethnic minority villages such as Black Tai or Akha. As well as being home to diverse nature reserves such as Nam Xam National Protected Area, which offers spectacular views from Phu Fa mountain peak at an altitude of 1,800m above sea level.

An interesting historical fact about Phongsali province is that it was previously part of French Indochina during colonial times when it was called Muong Khao Province. It also played an important role in international relations between countries during this period due to its strategic location at the center of China-Vietnam-Laos border triangle.
