Visit Phongsaly Province

The Phongsaly Province is located in the far north of Laos. It is a mountainous region, covered with thick forests. It is one of the poorest and least developed provinces in Laos, with around 40% of its population living below the poverty line.

One must-see attraction here is Tham Piu Cave, an impressive natural cave located near Vieng Phoukha district. With colorful stalactites and stalagmites carpeting its walls, it's a great spot for exploring and taking photographs. The Thoen Ngorn waterfall is also to be found nearby - visitors can take a dip beneath these cascading falls at their own risk!

Phongsaly was once part of an ancient kingdom known as Muang Ngoen Yang or "Thousand Golds" which existed until 1337 AD when it was annexed by Yuan Dynasty China following internal strife between rival factions within the kingdom itself. Today, remnants from this era can still be seen in some villages across Phongsaly Province.
