Visit Savannakhet Province


Savannakhet Province is located in southern Laos, on the Thai border. The province is known for its natural beauty and diverse culture. Popular tourist attractions in the area include Thakhek Cave, Tad Xaisomboun Cave and Phou Hin Poun National Protection Area.

The city of Savannakhet is the largest urban center in the province and offers a vibrant mix of French colonial architecture alongside Lao-style temples, shops and markets. Visitors to Savannakhet can take part in a variety of activities such as hiking, trekking, mountain biking and kayaking.

Savannakhet has an interesting history that dates back to the 16th century when it was founded by King Setthathirat I of Lan Xang Kingdom. In 1867 it became part of France's Indochina colony before eventually being annexed by Thailand until 1945 when it was taken over by Laos. Today Savannakhet Province remains true to its historical roots with many traditional customs still observed throughout the region making it an ideal destination for cultural exploration.
