Discover Riga

Riga is the capital city of Latvia, located on the Baltic Sea. It has a long and fascinating history, with periods of rule by Germans, Swedes, Poles and Russians. The city is full of stunning architecture from its various rulers - from medieval churches to Soviet-era buildings.

The old town of Riga is a great place to explore and experience its past. Wander through cobbled streets lined with ancient buildings such as the House of Blackheads - a 14th century guildhall - or take in the baroque beauty of St Peter's Church. Other attractions include Riga Castle, Freedom Monument and Albert Street - one Europe's longest pedestrian shopping streets where you can find souvenirs and traditional Latvian crafts.

For nature lovers there are numerous parks across the city including Esplanade Park in central Riga which offers beautiful views across the river Daugava or head out to Ziepniekkalns Forest for some peaceful walking trails through lush woodlands. Enjoy delicious Latvian cuisine like zeppelins (potato dumplings stuffed with bacon) or smoked fish washed down with local beers at lively markets like Central Market or Kalnciema Quarter Food Festivals.
