Visit Vidzeme Region

Vidzeme is a historic region and province located in northeast Latvia. It is home to some of the most beautiful landscapes, such as the Gauja National Park, where visitors can explore an array of hiking trails and nature activities. Popular tourist sites include Turaida Castle, which dates back to the 13th century and has been rebuilt multiple times since then; and Sigulda Cable Car which offers a unique bird's eye view of Gauja Valley.

Vidzeme was part of ancient Livonia and was once home to several Baltic tribes including Livonians, Zemgals, Latgalians and Selonians who left their mark on this land with archaeological relics scattered all around. An interesting fact about Vidzeme is that it was the site for one of the battles between Sweden and Russia during the Great Northern War in 1701 - known as The Battle of Riga - which played an important role in history as it resulted in Sweden gaining control over Latvia for a period of time.
