Visit Bomi


Bomi is a county located in western Liberia. It borders the country of Sierra Leone, as well as other Liberian counties, including Grand Cape Mount and Gbarpolu. The total population of the county is about 92,000 people, according to the 2008 national census. Bomi is known for its lush rainforest landscape and abundant wildlife. Tourists can explore the Todee Mountain National Park to see diverse animal species like monkeys and forest elephants or visit Klay Beach on Robertsport for some relaxation in nature.

The history of Bomi dates back thousands of years when it was part of the Mandingo Empire; later it became part of early settlements by freed slaves who were sent back from America via London in 1820s. During Liberia's civil war in the 1990s, Bomi was occupied by rebel forces until 2001 when government forces regained control over it. In 2019 a memorial to late President William Tubman was unveiled at Tubmanburg city square symbolizing reconciliation within region residents affected by civil war atrocities
