Visit Sinoe


The Sinoe province is situated in the southeast region of Liberia. It is bordered by Grand Kru and Rivercess on the north, Grand Gedeh to the east, River Gee and Maryland on the south. With its lush forests and mangroves, Sinoe is home to incredible wildlife including elephants, leopards, chimpanzee and several species of birds. For tourists there are plenty of interesting places to visit such as Sapo National Park with its ancient rainforest trails and Lake Piso which is a great spot for fishing. Boating trips along river Tewor will take you close to breathtaking waterfalls, where you can also find traditional ancestral villages that store centuries-old secrets.

One intriguing historical fact about Sinoe Province relates to its past as an African American settlement founded by freed slaves from Mississippi during the early 19th century. As part of what was known as The "Colonization Movement" this group moved here with their families hoping for freedom from slavery in America. Since then their descendants have remained in what they call "Sapo Country" preserving one of Liberia's most fascinating cultures till today.
