Visit Al Buţnān

The Al Butnan of Libya is an ancient Berber tribe located in the western region of the country, bordering both Algeria and Tunisia. It is a traditionally nomadic tribe that has maintained its cultural identity, language and customs over hundreds of years.

The Al Butnan are known for their hospitality, particularly towards tourists visiting the area. Popular tourist sites include Ghadames - an ancient walled city with stunning architecture that dates back to Roman times; and Aouzou - a stunning oasis with natural springs and sand dunes.

An interesting historical fact about the Al Butnan is their involvement in Libya's struggle for independence from Italy during World War II. They provided valuable support to Allied forces fighting against Italian occupation in North Africa, attacking enemy troops and gathering intelligence on enemy movements.
