Visit Nālūt

The Nalut of Libya is an ancient Berber town located in the Jabal Nefusa mountain range in northwestern Libya. It is one of the oldest towns in the country, with a history dating back to at least 300 BCE. Its winding cobblestone streets, crumbling ramparts and beautiful views of the region have made it a popular tourist destination in recent years.

Highlights include exploring the ruins of various medieval castles, such as Qala'at al-Ghosun, which was built during Ottoman rule, and visiting its many mosques and churches. The old town center also offers a variety of traditional food stalls where visitors can enjoy local dishes such as couscous or keshk (a type of porridge).

One interesting historical fact about Nalut is that it was once home to an important Jewish community known as the Banu Ghaniya until they were expelled by Ottoman forces in 1551. This makes Nalut part of a long tradition connecting Libyan Jews to their homeland for over two thousand years.
