Visit Zawiya District

The Zawiya District of Libya is located in the western part of the country, on the Mediterranean coast. It is home to a number of important historical and cultural sites, as well as some stunning natural scenery. The city center itself features some beautiful old buildings and mosques, such as the Great Mosque and the Sidi Ghazi Mosque. A visit to Umm al-Amad castle, with its ancient ruins and artifacts from different periods in history, makes for an interesting excursion. Tourists can also take a pleasant stroll along the waterfront Corniche or enjoy a day out at Jarefiyah Lake Wildlife Reserve to see its birdlife and other wildlife.

When it comes to history, Zawiya District has plenty to offer: it was once one of the most important ports for trade between Europe and North Africa; it's also believed that Saint Augustine visited here during his travels; and during World War II it was an Allied base.
