Ruggell of Liechtenstein is a small, mountainous country located between Austria and Switzerland in the heart of the Alps. It covers an area of only 62 square miles and has a population of just over 38,000 people. Ruggell is the fourth smallest country in Europe and its capital city, Vaduz, is home to the princely family of Liechtenstein.
The location offers spectacular mountain views with plenty to explore for outdoorsy types looking for some adventure. Popular tourist sites include Castle Vaduz -the official residence of Prince Hans-Adam II- as well as Malbun Ski Resort which offers skiing, hiking and tobogganing activities all year round.
Historically speaking, Ruggell was part of the Holy Roman Empire until 1719 when it became an independent principality in its own right -making it one of the oldest surviving monarchies in Europe to this day!
