Kaunas County is a county in Lithuania located along the Neman River. It's home to the second-largest city in Lithuania, Kaunas, as well as several towns and villages. The county has many attractions for visitors such as Trakai Castle, a 14th-century castle on an island in Lake Galve and Kaunas Old Town (Senamiestis), with its cobbled streets, colorful buildings and baroque churches.

Kaunas County is also home to one of the oldest universities in Northern Europe called Vytautas Magnus University which was established in 1579 by King Stephen Bathory of Poland. The university has hosted some of the most influential political figures such as US presidents Dwight Eisenhower and George H W Bush.

The area is steeped in history; during World War II it was known as 'the Jewish ghetto' when thousands of Jews were interned there before being sent to concentration camps or killed. In modern times, Kaunas County has become a popular tourist destination both for its natural beauty and fascinating history.
