Visit Marijampolė County


Marijampole County is located in the southwest corner of Lithuania and is bordered by Poland to the west and Kaliningrad Oblast to the south. It covers an area of 1,521 square kilometers and has a population of over 130,000 people. The county seat is Marijampole which features many beautiful parks and monuments as well as a vibrant cultural scene with numerous museums, theater venues, cafes and pubs.

The region offers plenty for tourists to explore including historic religious sites such as the 19th century neo-Gothic Church of St. Anne or the Kaunas Calvary chapel built in 1710. Nature enthusiasts should not miss out on visiting Seimenos Regional Park where they can take part in hiking trails or observe different animals species in their natural habitat.

One interesting fact about Marijampole County is that it was once home to many renowned Lithuanian authors including Juozas Tumas-Vaizgantas, Antanas Vienuolis, Salomeja Neris, Jono Biliuno ir Kristijono Donelaicio who all lived there during their formative years.
