Visit Fianarantsoa

Fianarantsoa is the capital of Haute Matsiatra in Madagascar. It is one of the oldest cities in the country and has a rich history dating back to 1690 when it was founded by King Andrianjaka. The city is located in the southern highlands, about 250 kilometers south of Antananarivo, and offers stunning views over the surrounding countryside.

Visitors to Fianarantsoa can explore its charming streets filled with traditional architecture, visit historical monuments such as the old stone bridge built by Merina king Radama I in 1825, or relax at nearby Ranomafana National Park with its tropical rainforest and variety of wildlife. There are also several local markets such as Bazar Be, where tourists can purchase souvenirs or just soak up the atmosphere.

Fianarantsoa has seen many changes throughout its long history but still retains much of its colonial charm. Its most famous landmark is La Montagne de l'Amitie (Mountain of Friendship), which was built by French colonists during World War II to commemorate those who lost their lives during the fight for independence from France.
