Visit Mahajanga

Mahajanga is a port city located in the northwest of Madagascar. It is known for its unique blend of French and Malagasy cultures, as well as its tropical climate, pristine beaches, and thriving marine life. Visitors can visit the Grand Mosque of Mahajanga, built in 1883 during the French colonial period; or take a stroll through the bustling markets to sample local seafood or watch traditional dance performances.

One of Mahajanga's most popular attractions is the nearby Sakalava Bay Marine Park. Here visitors can go snorkeling in crystalline waters and explore coral reefs full of vibrant marine life. Other nearby attractions include fishing villages, mangrove swamps, and hiking trails that lead up to stunning views from Moramba Peak.

An interesting historical fact about Mahajanga is that it was once considered an important trading post between Europe and Asia during the 17th century. Many ships would stop here on their way to India or China due to its strategic location on the Indian Ocean coastline.
