Visit Toliara

Toliara, also known as Tulear, is a port city located on the southwest coast of Madagascar. It is the capital of the Atsimo-Andrefana region and is one of the country's largest cities. Tourists visiting Toliara can explore its colorful markets, beaches, and nearby nature reserves such as Ifaty or Mangily.

The city dates back to 1866 when it was founded by French colonists who named it after their leader, Admiral de Toulon. Since then its economy has relied heavily on trade with local villages in the region and tourism from abroad. As a result, Toliara has several fine restaurants that feature traditional Madagascan cuisine made with fresh seafood and other locally sourced ingredients.

In addition to its natural beauty, visitors should plan to visit some of Toliara's most popular attractions such as Morombe Beach for swimming or chez Muguette for an authentic dining experience. For those interested in history, Notre Dame des Lecques cathedral offers insight into the city's colonial past while St Augustin museum showcases artifacts from early Malagasy settlements throughout this region of Madagascar.
