Visit Central Region

The Central Region of Malawi is a beautiful and diverse landscape situated in the heart of Southern Africa. It is home to renowned Lake Malawi and its stunning turquoise waters, as well as the steep hills of the Nyika Plateau. The region offers a variety of activities for travelers, from cultural experiences and nature safaris to water sports and relaxation.

Popular tourist destinations in the Central Region include Liwonde National Park, a wildlife reserve offering some of the best game viewing in the country; Nkhokwe Mountain, an excellent spot for hiking; and Dzalanyama Forest Reserve, which provides visitors with breathtaking views overlooking central Malawi.

Historically speaking, this region was also part of one of Africa's oldest kingdoms: Maravi Kingdom. This kingdom was founded by Mang'anja speakers during the mid 16th century on what are now parts of Zomba District, Machinga District and Mulanje District. These areas remain integral parts to Central Malawi's cultural heritage today.
