Visit Dedza District


Dedza District is located in the Central Region of Malawi. The district has a total population of over 830,000 people according to the 2018 census. It is an agricultural area with rolling hills and picturesque landscapes. Dedza District is known for its cultural heritage, historic sites and touristy places to visit.

One of the popular/touristy places to visit in Dedza District is Mtalimanja Hill which is located north of Dedza Town offering spectacular views over Lake Malawi and Mulhako wa Alhomwe Cultural Museum where one can learn about the lifestyle, culture and history of local tribes like Yao, Lomwe etc.. An interesting historical fact about this region is that this area was one of first parts settled when Bantu speaking people arrived in Malawi during 16th century AD.

Other tourist attractions include Kaphuta Waterfalls which are just 5 km from Dedza Town and Changata Nature Reserve - a protected wildlife sanctuary located just 20 km away from Dedza town with diverse birdlife as well as some large mammals like zebra, bushbuck etc..
