Visit Karonga District

The Karonga District is a stunning region located in northern Malawi. It is known as the gateway to Lake Malawi, Africa's third largest lake, and offers visitors stunning views and plenty of activities. The area is home to two national parks: Nyika National Park and Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve, both of which are popular tourist attractions. There visitors can explore lush forests filled with animals such as elephants, zebras, antelopes, buffalo and more. Tourists can also visit nearby Livingstonia Mission Station for a glimpse into the country's history. Founded by Scottish missionaries in 1894 during British colonial rule, Livingstonia Mission Station houses an old school building and church which provide insight into the past culture of the area. Visitors can also take part in traditional activities such as fishing on Lake Malawi or take part in cultural ceremonies with local tribes including the Tumbuka people who live around Karonga District.
