Visit Machinga

Machinga is one of the 28 districts in Malawi and is located in the southeastern part of the country. Machinga has a population of just over 1 million people and is known for its lush forests, wildlife, and lake systems. It's home to several national parks like Liwonde National Park which offers visitors a unique opportunity to observe rare species such as elephants, leopards, lions and hippos. The region also boasts Mt Mulanje with its spectacular waterfalls and breathtaking scenery.

There are two touristy places that visitors can explore: Ntchisi Forest Reserve which features a variety of plants & animals as well as beautiful views; and Matemwe Beach where you can take a swim or relax under palm trees by the shoreline.

An interesting historical fact about Machinga region was that during World War II it was used as an escape route for many refugees trying to flee from their homes in Mozambique who were forced into exile in neighboring countries such as Malawi because of civil war's ravages effects that had spread across East Africa at that time.
