Visit Mwanza


The Mwanza region in Malawi is situated in the Southern Region of the country. It is home to some beautiful landscapes, with rolling hills, flat valleys and an abundance of wildlife. The rich cultural history can be seen through its many traditional villages and monuments that pay homage to those who have lived there before.

One of the most popular tourist attractions in Mwanza is Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve, which covers over 3,000 hectares and offers a wide selection of wildlife including elephants, antelopes and zebras as well as many bird species. For a taste of local culture, visitors can go to Ntholo Beach where they can explore the area's vibrant markets or take part in some traditional dancing or music performances.

There are also several historical sites which include Chisomo Museum displaying ancient artifacts from Mwanza's past as well as Liwonde National Park which is home to a variety of African game animals such as hippos and crocodiles. An interesting historical fact about this region - In 1883 Queen Victoria sent her troops into Mwanza during the British Central Africa Protectorate campaign against Chief Kayerekera's warriors!
