Visit Mwanza District

Mwanza District is located in the Southern Region of Malawi. It's a beautiful rural area that stretches from the Shire Highlands to Lake Malombe and includes some of the most spectacular scenery in all of Malawi. A great way to explore Mwanza is to take part in one of its many cultural activities, such as visiting sacred sites, participating in traditional gatherings or simply smelling the sweet aromas emanating from its abundant fruit and vegetable markets.

When it comes to sightseeing, two must-visit places are Songwe Hill and Tongole Reserve. Songwe Hill offers stunning views over Lake Malombe while Tongole Reserve is home to an abundance of wildlife species including lions, elephants and African wild dogs.

The area is also rich with interesting history - it was once a hub for slave traders transporting captives between what are now Mozambique and Tanzania during the 19th century. Today, Mwanza remains an important part of southern Malawian culture and identity -- evidence of which can be found throughout its villages, towns and cities.
