Visit Northern Region

The Northern Region of Malawi is a stunning part of the African country. It is home to many natural wonders, such as Lake Malawi, one of the world's deepest and oldest lakes. Wildlife reserves and national parks dot the region, and there are plenty of mountain ranges and rivers to explore. Among its biggest tourist attractions are Karonga Museum & Culture Centre, which houses artifacts from pre-colonial times; Nyika National Park with its rolling hills and wildflower meadowlands; and Livingstonia Mission Station which was founded in 1894 by Scottish missionaries.

Apart from its natural beauty, the Northern Region also has an interesting history. For centuries it has been governed by both Ngoni chieftainship politics as well as British colonial rule until independence in 1964. Today it is very much alive with traditional culture still influencing modern life throughout many rural areas especially during festivals like Chisemwa cha Ngolosi held to celebrate Ngoni Heroes Day on 19th June annually.
