Visit Rumphi District

Rumphi District is located in Northern Malawi and is a popular tourist destination. It is home to the Nyika National Park, where visitors can explore the rugged highlands and spot wildlife such as zebras, elands, and leopards. The area also contains a number of beautiful waterfalls including Mwalawanga Falls and Chambe Falls. For those looking for a more spiritual experience, Rumphi Hill, with its caves and shrines dedicated to ancestral spirits, is worth exploring.

Historically Rumphi district was known as Nkhamanga during pre-colonial times when it was ruled by the Nkhamanga people. In the 19th century this area became part of the British protectorate of Nyasaland (now Malawi) when it was established in 1891. This makes Rumphi one of the oldest political entities in Malawi today!
