The Zomba District, located in the southeastern part of Malawi, is a picturesque and diverse region. In the highlands of Zomba Plateau, visitors can explore the rolling hills and lush forests while getting an up close view of the local wildlife. In addition to its natural beauty, the district is home to many historical sites, including St Michaels Cathedral and Botanic Garden. Tourists will also find plenty of activities such as mountain biking and hiking trails that provide stunning views over Lake Chilwa. Additionally, there are two national parks for those interested in bird watching or game spotting - Liwonde National Park and Mount Mulanje Forest Reserve.

An interesting historical fact about Zomba District is that it was once home to Malawi's first President Kenneth Kaunda who lived in his estate at Kamuzu Palace until 1994 when he left office. Today visitors to this area can pay respects at his grave which overlooks Lake Chilwa near Kamuzu Palace.
