Visit Upper South Province

The Upper South Province, also known as Huvadhu Atoll, is a region of the Maldives located near the equator. It is composed of 150 islands and atolls that form an archipelago in the Indian Ocean. This beautiful region offers a wide range of activities for its visitors such as snorkeling, scuba diving, fishing trips and experiencing local culture.

Two must-see places while visiting this province are Kudahuvadhoo Island and Fuvahmulah Island. Kudahuvadhoo is known for its white sand beaches while Fuvahmulah offers great opportunities to explore its natural beauty and unique culture with many folklore tales still being shared amongst locals today.

A notable fact about this province is that it was once governed by the Sultanate of Addu during the early 18th century when it was established by Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar II after unifying it with other provinces in 1690s AD until he was overthrown in 1762 AD following a coup led by his son-in-law Ali who became Sheikh Ali I Umar Manikufaaruluvaru.
