The Kayes are an ethnic group located in the west African country of Mali. They are one of the oldest inhabitants of Mali, and have been living there for centuries. The Kayes make up the majority of the population in the region, and their culture is deeply rooted in traditional values and beliefs.

The region surrounding Kayes is home to many tourist attractions, including Grand Mosque de Djenne, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known as one of Africa's greatest mud-building achievements. In addition to its historical sites, Kayes also boasts a picturesque landscape with rolling hills, riverside villages and ancient ruins.

Kayes also has an important role in Malian history - it was here that French colonial power first made its mark on West Africa when they established Fort Soudan du Niger in 1883. Today, this fort remains as a reminder of Malian history, open daily for visitors wishing to explore its significance within African history.
