Visit Guidimaka Region


The Guidimaka Region is located in the eastern region of Mauritania. It is known for its rolling hills, vibrant culture, and unique wildlife. It is the country's largest region and borders Senegal to the south. Tourists visits this region to experience a different side of Mauritania.

The main attractions in Guidimaka are Gourel Badou National Park and Djoudj National Bird Sanctuary located near Rosso town. These places offer tourists an opportunity to observe some of Africa's most interesting wildlife including many species of birds, mammals, reptiles and fish.

Guidimaka has a rich history that dates back several centuries. Traditional pottery production has been practiced here since ancient times while Islamic monuments from 11th Century can be found at small villages around the region including Toujounine Mosque near Faramana village which was built in 1091 by Ammar ibn Yahya al-Hajarai - one of earliest Islamic rulers in West Africa
