Visit Hodh ech Chargui


Hodh ech Chargui is a region in the country of Mauritania located in the south- central part of the country. It borders Senegal to the south and Mali to the southwest, and is known for its desert landscape, wildlife preserves, and archaeological sites. Tourists flock to Hodh ech Chargui for its incredible sand dune formations, majestic mountains, and diverse wildlife.

The region is home to several popular tourist destinations including Kankoussa National Park, where visitors can explore unique rock formations created by wind erosion over thousands of years; Tichit Oasis which offers visitors a beautiful oasis surrounded by lush palm trees; and Aleg Beach on Lac Saguir which provides stunning sunsets views against an African sky.

Hodh ech Chargui has much historical significance as well. It was here that Timbuktu's Tuareg nomads left inscriptions from as far back as 899 AD in what is now called 'Tombouctou Manuscripts'. This writing system remains one of the most important historical documents in pre-Islamic Africa.
