Visit Nouakchott-Ouest Region

Nouakchott-Ouest is a province of Mauritania located in the western part of the country. It is bordered by the Inchiri region to its north, and the Trarza and Brakna regions to its east and south respectively.

The Nouakchott-Ouest region is well known for its sandy deserts, which make it popular among tourists looking for an off-the-beaten path experience. The area also has some spectacular sites such as Embouchure du Fleuve Senegal National Park, where visitors can explore mangroves and wildlife, along with ancient archaeological ruins. A must visit site in the region is Kaedi Grand Mosque - built in 1590 - which houses a beautiful white minaret that stands tall against an Arabian night sky.

Nouakchott-Ouest has had many rulers throughout its history; first being occupied by France before gaining independence in 1960s from them. This era saw many colourful characters become prominent figures both internationally and locally still remembered today such as Moktar Ould Daddah who served as Mauritania's first president from 1961 to 1978.
