Agalega is a small tropical island belonging to the Republic of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean. The island occupies a total area of only 28 square kilometers, yet offers plenty for visitors to explore and enjoy. Agalega is home to some stunning beaches, diverse wildlife, and surrounding coral reefs that make it perfect for snorkeling or scuba diving.

Two top tourist attractions on Agalega are the Grand Gaube Village and Pointe Gaud Beach. An interesting historical fact about Agalega is that it was first settled by French colonists in 1735 who brought enslaved African laborers to work on plantations producing sugarcane, spices and cotton. After being passed around between several countries including France, Britain and even Denmark before finally joining Mauritius at independence in 1968.
