Visit Curepipe

Curepipe, also known as La Ville-Lumiere, is a city located in the center of Mauritius. It is the second most populous city on the island after Port Louis and serves as a gateway to other parts of the country. Notable tourist attractions in Curepipe include Alexandra Falls, which features a beautiful waterfall with lush foliage; Trou aux Cerfs, an extinct volcano with an amazing view of the surrounding area; and Le Bois Cheri Tea Estate & Factory, where visitors can learn about tea production from guided tours.

Curepipe was first settled by French colonists in 1768, making it one of the oldest cities on Mauritius. In 1887 it was declared a town by Sir William MacGregor, Governor of Mauritius at that time. Another historical note is that Curepipe served as a place for exiled Indian revolutionaries during British colonial rule in India in 1858-1947.
