Visit Moka District
Moka district, located in the central part of Mauritius, is known for its lush landscape and rolling hills. Home to numerous nature reserves and protected areas, Moka District is a paradise for nature lovers. It's situated about 10 kilometers away from the capital city of Port Louis and offers plenty of activities ranging from hiking to horseback riding and even mountain biking. On top of that, there are many historical sites to explore such as the Pamplemousses Botanical Garden which was created in 1767 or Aapravasi Ghat - a UNESCO World Heritage Site which served as an immigration depot during colonial times.
Other touristy places include Black River Gorges National Park - popular for its pristine forests and wildlife - or La Vanille Nature Park where visitors can observe various species of crocodiles and giant tortoises. An interesting fact about this region is that it was one of the first parts of Mauritius to be explored by European settlers in 1638 who then established plantations here - some of which are still visible today.
