Visit Rivière du Rempart District

The Riviere du Rempart district is located in the northwest of Mauritius and is renowned for its stretch of beautiful white sand beaches, lush green sugarcane plantations, old colonial buildings and picturesque villages. This region has become increasingly popular with tourists over the years due to its stunning views, delicious food and rich cultural heritage.

A must-see tourist attraction in the Riviere du Rempart district is Grand Baie, a lively beach town with beautiful waterfront views perfect for swimming, snorkeling and yachting. Another notable location to visit is La Nicoliere waterfall which cascades into a natural pool perfect for swimming or simply admiring nature.

An interesting historical fact about this region dates back to 1735 when King Louis XV of France ordered the construction of Fort Adelaide near Grand Baie as part of his plans to colonize Mauritius. Although fortifications have since been demolished, evidence can still be found today in nearby Grande Baie Lighthouse built by the French in 1853 during colonial rule.
