Grande-Terre (Maore) of Mayotte is a volcanic island located in the Indian Ocean. It is part of the Comoros archipelago, and it's one of France's overseas territories. Mayotte has beautiful white sand beaches and a diverse marine life, making it a great place for scuba diving, snorkeling and fishing.

When visiting Grand-Terre you should definitely check out Le Mont Choungui. This mountain offers an amazing view of the surrounding landscape, as well as being home to numerous endemic species of birds and reptiles. Another spot worth visiting is Dziani Lake: this crater lake is home to many birds, as well as freshwater turtles that are threatened with extinction.

Mayotte also has a rich historical heritage; it was first colonized by the French in 1841 after being visited by early traders from Africa, Persia and India hundreds of years before that. Today Mayotte remains one of France's most important overseas territories and its culture reflects its diverse ethnic background.
