Visit Oaxaca
No visit to Oaxaca would be complete without visiting Monte Alban - one of the earliest cities in Mesoamerica which dates back as far as 500BC - or Hierve el Agua - a stunning natural rock formation that is made up of two mineral-rich 'petrified' waterfalls rising 40 metres above the valley floor.
One interesting historical fact about Oaxaca is that it was once one of the last independent states of Mexico before the Spanish arrived in 1521, making it one of the few regions to keep their autonomy during colonization.
