Visit Querétaro
Near the capital city of Santiago de Queretaro are several sites worth seeing such as the Aqueduct of Santiago de Queretaro and the Cerro de las Campanas National Park. The aqueduct was built in 1738 to facilitate water supplies for the city and is an impressive example of Spanish colonial engineering. The national park is filled with desert cactus gardens and stunning views of canyons and mountain ranges surrounding it.
An interesting historical fact related to Queretaro is that it was here where Emperor Maximilian I made his last stand against forces loyal to Benito Juarez during the Second Mexican Empire in 1867. Today a monument stands on Cerro de las Campanas which commemorates this battle.
With its rich history, cultural attractions, outdoor activities and fantastic food, there's no wonder why so many people choose to visit Queretaro every year!
