Visit Călărași District


The Calarasi District is located in the east of Moldova and borders Ukraine. It is made up of 11 communes and two cities, Calarasi and Poiana. The district offers many natural sights, such as Lake Petrykaivka and Lake Stiubei, where visitors can take part in recreational activities such as fishing or swimming.
Caltanirii Noi has strong historical roots; it was first mentioned in documents from 1435 as the estate of the well-known nobleman Sirbul Tepelusco. The fortified church found here dates back to 1639 and is an interesting stop for visitors seeking to learn more about the area's history.
Other tourist attractions include Danu Marketplace in Poianca, a popular marketplace which serves various local products including fruits, vegetables, wines, meats and cheeses; as well as Stanca-Costesti Natural Reserve which features stunning landscapes with unique flora & fauna.

An interesting historical fact about this region is that it was once home to several Jewish communities known for their educational institutions such as Yeshiva Tiferet Liviuah which opened its doors back in 1742 making it one of Europe's oldest Jewish schools still operating today.
