Visit Ștefan Vodă District

The Stefan Voda District is a region located in northeastern Moldova, near the Ukraine border. With its beautiful hills and valleys, it is known for its historical landmarks and wineries. It is home to the Orheiul Vechi Archeological Complex which includes the ruins of several monasteries and fortresses from the 14th century as well as a vast underground network of catacombs and galleries. The nearby city of Soroca is also a must-see; here you can find one of Europe's highest wooden fortifications along with many churches, mosques and synagogues that were built during Ottoman rule. For those looking for some relaxation during their trip, Tulburea Lake near Orheiul Vechi is an ideal spot to spend an afternoon fishing or swimming in calm waters surrounded by lush forest. An interesting historical fact about Stefan Voda district is that it was once part of the Principality of Moldavia -- a medieval state founded by Prince Bogdan I around 1359 which was later absorbed into modern day Moldova in 1812.
