The Dornogovi Province of Mongolia is a land rich in history and culture. Situated in the southeast of Mongolia, it is home to an array of diverse landscapes ranging from grasslands to deserts. The area has many important historical sites, such as Buddhist monasteries and ruins from the era of Genghis Khan's conquests.

A must-see for tourists visiting Dornogovi Province is Ongi Monastery, nestled in the foothills of the Gurvan Saikhan Mountains National Park. It was one of the most important centers for Buddhism before being destroyed by Soviet troops in 1939 and has since been partially restored by Mongolian Buddhists.

For those looking to explore nature at its best, Yoliin Am Valley will not disappoint with its spectacular views and local wildlife including snow leopards, marmots, ibexes and eagles.

An interesting fact about this region is that during China's Cultural Revolution (1966-1976) some Mongolian monasteries were destroyed or converted into factories or military camps due to their opposition against communism; however these temples were later restored after 1991 when Mongolia declared its independence from Soviet rule.
