The Govi-Altai Province, located in the western portion of Mongolia, is a region rich in historical and cultural significance. It borders China to the south and Russia to the north and is home to vast expanses of grassy steppes, rolling hillsides, stunning mountain ranges, and lush forests. The region's climate is diverse due to its mountainous landscape; while some areas experience extreme temperatures during both the summer and winter months, other areas remain mild year-round.

Visitors can explore numerous sites throughout Govi-Altai Province that tell stories from centuries past such as ancient ruins like those at Khar Balgas or Erdene Zuu Monastery - one of Mongolia's oldest temples built in 1586. For wildlife enthusiasts there are opportunities for birdwatching at Uur Lake or horseback riding through Kharkhorin National Park where bison can be spotted grazing on the open plains.

Perhaps most interesting about this province's history is Genghis Khan's connection to it - he was proclaimed ruler of all Mongols here in 1206 CE. A major highlight for tourists today is seeing his famous statue erected just outside Kharkhorin that stands 40 meters tall overlooking majestic views of mountains afar!
