The Orkhon Province is a region located in the north-central part of Mongolia. It is known for its beautiful mountain ranges, forests, and steppes. The capital city of the province is Ulaanbaatar which sits on the Tuul River. There are several touristy places to visit within this province including Tuvkhun Monastery which dates back to 1651 and Nomad Park, where visitors can experience authentic nomadic life such as horseback riding and traditional games.
In addition to its natural beauty, Orkhon Province has a wealth of historical moments from both pre-capitalist and socialist eras in Mongolia's history. One interesting fact about this region is that it was once home to the nomadic Uighurs who established an empire called Gokturk in 552 A.D., strengthening their rule by developing written law codes, constructing temples, and offering protection along trade routes within Central Asia.
