Visit Ulaanbaatar

Ulaanbaatar is the capital and largest city in Mongolia, located in the north central part of the country. The city is home to more than half of the country's population and has seen a surge in development over recent years.

Ulaanbaatar offers a wealth of cultural attractions for tourists, such as Gandantegchinlen Monastery, which was built in 1809 and has since become an important centre for religious activities. Another popular attraction is Bogd Khan Palace Museum, which you can visit to learn about Mongolia's imperial history.

The National Park of Terelj also provides an excellent opportunity to explore nature and traditional Mongolian culture with its vast grasslands, wooded mountain slopes, rolling hills and river valleys. There are many Buddhist monasteries dotting any corner that one might take during hikes or sightseeing trips.

An interesting historical fact about Ulaanbaatar is that it used to be known as Ikh Khuree (Great Settlement) at the beginning of the 20th century when it was chosen as Mongolia's new capital after being occupied by Chinese forces before then.
