Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra is a region in the north of Morocco, located south of Cape Bojador. It borders the disputed Western Sahara and Algeria, and includes several towns like Dakhla, Boujdour, Tarfaya, El Marsa and Laayoune itself. Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra is known for its diverse landscape including desert dunes, agricultural oases and coastal areas with white sand beaches.

One of the most popular tourist attractions in the area is Cape Bojador - an ancient cape situated at the westernmost point on Moroccan coast famous for its birdwatching sites as well as its historical lighthouse built by Portuguese navigators during their exploration expeditions in 15th century. Another must-see tourist spot is Smara City - a historic fortified settlement surrounded by desert dunes which once served as an important city during Spanish colonization of Western Sahara in early 20th century.

An interesting historical fact about Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra region is that it used to be part of colonial Spain from 1934 up until 1975 when it was returned to Morocco after Polisario Front's successful guerrilla war against Spaniards ended with withdrawal from Western Sahara territory.
