Maputo, the capital of Mozambique, is a vibrant coastal city in the south of Africa. It's known for its beautiful beaches, bustling markets and lively nightlife. The architecture reflects a rich history that dates back to the 16th century when Maputo was an important trading port for Portuguese merchants. Tourists can visit attractions such as historic Fortaleza de Nossa Senhora da Conceicao, a fortress built in 1781; or climb up to the top of 2nd April bridge which offers panoramic views of the city and Indian Ocean. Don't forget to explore Samora Machel Avenue where you will find colorful colonial buildings, street vendors and vibrant cafes.

If you're looking for something more historical then head over to Praca dos Trabalhadores (Workers' Square), which was used by anarchist groups during Mozambique's struggle against colonialism in the 1960s. Maputo also boasts several museums such as National History Museum dedicated to Mozambique's independence movement and National Art Museum with its fascinating collection of contemporary African artworks.
