Visit Sofala Province

Sofala Province is located in the central region of Mozambique and serves as a popular tourist destination. It is home to the beautiful coastal city of Beira and the national parks Gorongosa and Zinave, both of which offer spectacular wildlife-viewing opportunities. Those looking to explore cultural sites can visit Mount Mabu, an ancient rainforest filled with local villages, or Dondo Ruins, a set of fascinating ruins from an old 15th century Swahili settlement.

Historically, Sofala has been known for its role in facilitating trade between East Africa and India since at least 10th century AD and was even one of the first areas where Islam was introduced to sub-Saharan Africa in the 12th century. Today it still plays a prominent role in Mozambique's economy via its ports and bustling marketplaces.
