The Uppatasanti Pagoda, a prominent landmark in Naypyidaw, Myanmar, is a replica of the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon, standing 99 meters tall. This magnificent golden pagoda is surrounded by 108 smaller pagodas, reflecting the traditional Burmese architectural style. The pagoda houses a Buddha tooth relic from China and is a significant place of worship for the locals.

Visitors to the Uppatasanti Pagoda can explore the Maha Pasadabhumi Gardens, which are beautifully landscaped and perfect for a leisurely stroll. Within the pagoda complex, there’s a museum that showcases the history and culture of Myanmar. Another attraction is the white elephants, considered sacred in Myanmar, housed in a special enclosure near the pagoda. These attractions combined with the serene ambiance of the pagoda offer a unique cultural experience.

Plan your visit

  1. Dress appropriately - Women should cover their shoulders and legs, as this is a religious site.
  2. Follow local customs - Respect the locals by taking off your shoes before entering the pagoda, and be mindful of speaking in a loud voice or making inappropriate gestures inside.
  3. Bring cash - Most vendors at the pagoda only accept cash, so make sure you come prepared with small bills to pay for souvenirs or food items that you may need during your visit.
  4. Don’t take pictures inside the pagoda- Photos are not allowed within certain parts of Uppatasanti Pagoda due to its sacred nature and respect for Buddhism beliefs so please be respectful when visiting this holy site!
  5. Arrive early - Make sure to arrive early in order to beat the crowds, allowing you a more peaceful experience while exploring all that Uppatasanti has to offer!
