The Zambezi Region, formerly known as the Caprivi Strip, is a province of Namibia located in the extreme northwest of the country. Bordered by Angola and Zambia to the north, Botswana to the south and Zimbabwe to the east, it is one of Namibia's most biodiverse regions offering untouched wilderness areas and spectacular wildlife for tourists. Popular attractions include Popa Falls on the Okavango River near Divundu and Kongola on Mahango National Park where visitors can go on safaris or boat trips along its waterways. For those looking for an adrenaline rush there are two major rapids runs offered by commercial tour operators at Mohembo and Nkonkobe Falls nearby. The region boasts a rich history that dates back to German colonial times when Germany annexed it as part of their South West Africa colony in 1890-91 making it one of very few landlocked provinces in Namibia today.
