Visit Anetan District

The Anetan District is located in the western part of Nauru and covers an area of 4km2. It is home to the highest population density on the island, with almost a third of all Nauruans living here.

For visitors, Anetan offers many interesting sites and activities. The local market provides an interesting insight into everyday life on Nauru, where you can find traditional jewelry and other crafts. Yaren Beach is also worth a visit; this sweeping shoreline offers excellent swimming, snorkeling and fishing opportunities.

Anetan has a rich history too; it was here that the first Europeans arrived in 1798 when Captain John Fearn called at Nauru for supplies for his ship's crew. In more recent times, the town hosted many diplomatic visits from Japan throughout World War II when Japanese forces occupied much of the country.
