The region is known for its scenic beauty with attractions such as Mt Kanchenjunga, the highest peak in India and third highest in the world; Pashupatinath Temple; Nagarjun Forest Reserve; Arun Valley etc.

One must visit Bhadrapur to experience an authentic Nepali culture. This city was once an important gateway between India and Tibet during ancient times. Another interesting tourist spot is Chitwan National Park which houses some of the rarest species of birds, plants and animals including Bengal tigers, one-horned rhinos etc.

A unique historical fact about this region is that it was once part of a separate kingdom called 'Kirat Desh' which was ruled by Kirat kings from 879 BCE to 600 CE before it became part of present day Nepal.
